Meets Period Antiques
The objective was clear - integrate the client's precious
period antiques from her grandmother into her newly renovated
Old Spanish style home. The recipe, however, was fairly complex.
Put new tiles which looked like old ones around the fireplace
(which never had any). Sprinkle around the living room some
older dark wood tables amongst the cool as ice modern coffee
table and commercial fabrics. Add new antique accessories
to compliment the beloved oil paintings given generously
by her mother-in-law. A few stately window treatments and
this is now what one could call a living room for both entertaining
and relaxing as well.
The master bedroom suite had it's own share of delicate antiques.
To soften their presence, a full wall of hand-beaded silk
drapery was added, along with sheer Roman shades over the
windows. An open iron headboard let's air and light in from
the window behind.
To soothe away the cares of the day, a
deep tub surrounded by stone, along with a found antique
chandelier, continue the civil pleasures of the home. Special
touches include inlaid mother-of-pearl backsplash tiles and
crystal beads hanging from the silk Roman window shades.
Perhaps
the recipe was not as complicated after all. 'Just a little
of this and a little of that.'
